The University of Macau (UM) is a public international comprehensive research university located in Macau, China. It is a founding member of the China-Europe Business School Alliance, the Belt and Road International Science Organization Alliance, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area West Coast Science and Technology Innovation and Talent Training Cooperation Alliance, and a member of the Asia-Pacific University College Alliance and the China University Presidents Association (C9 Alliance+). The School of Business Administration of the University of Macau is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS.
The predecessor of the University of Macau was the University of East Asia, which was established on March 28, 1981. In 1991, it was converted from a private university to a public university and renamed the University of Macau. In August 2014, it officially moved to the new campus on Hengqin Island, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province.
The campus area of the University of Macau is 1.09 square kilometers. It has the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, Honors College, as well as the Graduate School and Continuing Education Center. It has the Chinese Medical Research Institute, the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, the Institute of Collaborative Innovation, the Institute of Microelectronics, the Macau Research Center, the Asia-Pacific Institute of Economics and Management, and the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences.
The University of Macau ranks 193rd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, 36th in the Asian University Rankings, 245th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, and 26th in the Global Young University Rankings. 12 subject areas: Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Clinical Medicine, Psychiatry/Psychology, Biology and Biochemistry, General Social Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Economics and Business, Environmental Sciences and Ecology are among the top 1% in the Basic Science Indicators Database.
